C-Town Supermarkets is a supermarket chain that operates in various locations in the northeastern states of America including New York. They sell an array of products including meat, dairy, produce, beverages, pasta, rice and sauces.
History
This is one of the few supermarkets that began as an independent or family run supermarket, been successful and stayed independent. Most of American supermarkets are bought by large firms that own a large number of supermarkets. The advantage to the large company is that they get a larger market share, while the previous owners get a significant payout to put into their next venture or retirement.
The company was founded in 1975 and the aim of the company was to take advantage of economies of scale to minimize their costs and maximize their profits. Therefore rather than gradually introducing stores one by one, the state was hit by a large number of C-Town store openings at one time. A simplified explanation of what economies of scale are is that the more output a store produces, the lower their costs are per unit. For example, producing one bag of rice might cost $1, but producing 10 will cost the company $0.50 each.
Currently, there are approximately 200 stores open in the following areas combined: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. As a result of the large number of stores in a confined area, it is the 5th largest store in the New York metropolitan area.
While C-Town does sell popular national brands, it has a wide selection of its own brand products called Krasdale. The packaging of these products does not have the usual cheap packaging found on other store-brand products; it could easily pass for a more expensive branded product.
Finally, for many years the company has used Alpha-I Marketing Corporation to market and advertise the company.

My husband who is disabled and myself went back with our receipt to the C-town Supermarket located at 445 South Franklin Street in Hempstead NY because of two bottles of Dafruta Concentrated Passion Fruit Drinks $2.99 each that were paid for, but missing from our grocery bag. We requested to speak to the manager or supervisor to no avail. We were told that he is not on duty, instead four men who claimed not to be the boss, showed up and for thirty minutes made us watch a video of ourselves shopping and paying the cashier. We didn’t know what the purpose was. These men were rude, unprofessional and intimidating. They accused us of lying, which followed by a shouting match of everyone talking. My husband and I are both in our sixties, we were humiliated. We were all standing by the cash registers looking at the cashiers laughing, the customers were inquiring if they caught us stealing. These four men said, they wouldn’t replace the two bottles of Dafruta Concentrate Juice. They disrespected us, bullied us and intimidated us. After enough indignations, we decided to incur the loss and walked out of the store followed by laughters, some incomprehensible words. We found ourselves at a loss of $6 after spending a total amount of $ 196.00 of grocery purchases at the C-Town on South Franklin in Hempstead. We are very disappointed, therefore we do not recommend this business
